Can I receive NHS dental treatment whilst under the care of a private dentist?
Also, if the answer to the above is yes, are there any restrictions, and does the NHS and private treatment have to be carried out by the same dentist, or can I go to separate dentists?

If you have a private dentist, you won’t get NHS treatment maz22 c
Yes
You can be registered with a private dentist and see a different NHS one.
Alot of NHS dentists can’t offer all the treatments which are available (they are restricted) therefore many people who have an NHS registration with a dentist will often seek certain treatments from a Private Practice.
it’s always good to let your dentist know what you intend to do and why, but you won’t jeopardise your NHS registration nor should you jeopardise your registration with your private dentist if you seek alternative treatments or opinions. Tismee
If you can afford private treatment, it is a bit galling that you also want free treatment. We should leave the NHS free treatment for those who really need it. DC61
Some mixed practices have dentists who will do both NHS and private work on you. For example, they will do simple procedures like exams and cleans on the NHS, but work like dentures and crowns may need to be carry out on a private basis. This is all to do with their contracts, and how many units of dental activity they can carry out in a year on the NHS. But if you wished to have some treatment carried out on the NHS, then some at a different, private practice, there should be no problem. Just make sure you don’t have two different courses of NHS treatment carried out at two different NHS practices, at the same time. Robyn D
