Can you ask a dentist to save your wisdom teeth after they’re extracted?

I am going to get my wisdom teeth extracted. The wiki article says that you should save your wisdom teeth because it contains stem cells. I presume that can help you with diseases later but it sounds sci-fi at the moment. But I’ve never heard of a dentist mention this before. Can you ask them to save your teeth? If so, does it cost extra money, and is there any point in doing it?

They’ll let you have them for free. I don’t see the point myself. Millie

Yes you can and it doesn’t cost extra. I got my wisdom teeth out a week ago but I forgot to tell them to save them before I was put to sleep. suthrngrl14091

Dentists cannot give you your teeth once they are extracted. As soon as they are out, they become medical waste and must be disposed of properly. I didn’t write the laws, but that’s the way it is. Not dentist is going to risk their license because some article says there are stem cells in them. That being said, I always offer to give baby teeth to kids so the tooth fairy can visit….. Dr Miller

I’m not sure Dr. Miller knows what he’s talking about in all areas of the US. I have all four of my wisdom teeth in my hot little hand right now. Maybe laws vary state by state? My oral surgeon asked me if I wanted to keep my wisdom teeth, and he gave all of them to me intact. Havyn08

I had 3 wisdom teeth removed in December and they asked me if I wanted to keep them before I left and I said yes. So, I have them now. jimM
