How do I get my man to go to the dentist?

I know my man has gingivitis, his teeth really need to be cleaned up. He’s the best boyfriend in the world but he just refuses point blank to go to the dentist.
His excuse is that he’s afraid the dentist will find something seriously wrong with his teeth… (logic??)
I have tried a softly softly approach, nagging, bribery etc etc.
Can anyone offer another solution?? (excluding knocking him over the head and bringing him there unconscious!!)
