I went to a new dentist and thought I was completely covered under my mom’s dental insurance. They appearently thought I was too, so I signed a statement which came to $0!!! I didn’t have to pay for anything, I’m covered, that’s what they told me. Ok, so then I get a call saying I’m not covered at all, so now I have to pay for the whole bill. Am I responsible for their mistake? I have already paid for half.

YOU are responsible for knowing what YOUR coverage is, not the dentist. They look up the info to cover their own @ss from people like you who dont think they should pay for their treatment if they are not covered….they dont look it up for YOU.

Had they seen that you were not covered they probably would have billed you upfront. Mo

Sorry buy you are, you should know your own coverage. Its your job, not your dentist. All your dentist does is summit your bill, and the insurance company pays for what it owes. Then you get the rest. sarahrose

I think that they should have told you before you got the work done.I always ask ahead of time to have the option if there is going to be a charge. So I think the office manager should be a fault. lovingrue

As part of the paperwork you signed before treatment, (you did actually READ what you signed, didn’t you?) you signed a form that said you would pay for anything the insurance would not cover.

It’s your bill, you have to pay it. If you don’t, it will go to collections, they will win if they have to file suit against you, and it will be on your credit report. Caoedhen

Yes you are responsible for the whole bill. It is your responsibility to make sure of your coverage, not the dentist. You received the treatment and must pay for it. mnwomen
