It is too soon to test, but I might be pregnant and definitely don’t want to jeopardize the baby in any way. Is it still safe to go to the dentist? Thanks!

Yes, it’s actually encouraged to go to the dentist when pregnant as pregnancy can reek havoc on your teeth. Just avoid x-rays and bleaching. And if it’s anything that can wait till after, hold off. But if it’s an emergency, it’s ok to go.
I had to have a molar pulled when I was about 4 months pregnant and the local anesthetic (Novacain) is harmless, but things like gas or sedatives are a no-no. And of course you can’t take any narcotics they prescribe you for pain (I had to only take Tylenol after having a molar pulled). The Raenizzler

I actually talked to my dentist about this when I was 20 or so weeks when I went in for my annual cleaning.

Yes, you can see a dentist and have a filling. However, the only recommend having work done on your mouth in the second trimester. Nothing is completely proven, but they don’t want to potentially cause a miscarriage in the first trimester. In the third trimester, there is a chance it will put you into labor. As always, check with your ob first if you are pregnant because she or he may not recommend it.

When you go, just let them know that you may be pregnant or are pregnant and they will take necessary precautions to protect the baby. Definitely, you cannot have x-rays done though. You are encouraged to continue going to the dentist while pregnant because hormones do strange things to your teeth.
