Will going to the dentist at four weeks affect my developing child?
I am torn. I have a tooth ache in the front area and it is a cavity. I wanna wait til 12 weeks but the pain is excruciating.
Have any of you gone to the dentist in their first trimester and everything came out fine?

I went at 9 weeks and the dentist said it was fine to have dental work done – he just would not do any xray’s. # 6 BEAN ON BOARD
Well I’ve never had a child, but if your in excruciating pain, just go to the dentist. Remember dentists are doctors to, and your dentist won’t do anything to you that will hurt your baby. It sounds like your a loving mother concerned for her baby, but if you don’t go soon, you may end up needing a root canal which would be alot worse.
Good luck with the dentist and with your little one! cat_85_98
I would talk to your OB, but chances are they will encourage you to go. Tooth pain can cause problems with your child. I have gone this time around to have my teeth cleaned and some maintenance done and everything was fine. I would also talk to your dentist about you being pregnant and let them know. They will be more giving toward you since you are, expecially if you have morning sickness. My dentist was nice enough to keep asking me if I felt like throwing up so I wouldn’t throw up on her. Good Luck! Mother of 1 and due April 21st!
when i was pregnant i had to get all my wisdom teeth out, and get some cavaties filled i had the cavaties filled when i was 6 weeks along, and my child is fine. He is 6 years old and very healthy. honeybear
no i havent gone to the dentist this pregnancy but u dont have to wait just tell ure ob first so he can talk 2 your dentist about stuff u can take and make sure ure dentist nows ure pregnant and i dont think it will affect your baby as long as its an emergency i think u will be fine now i hersd that teeth whitening is bad but i mean the will probally just give u a lower dose of anesthisia or something!!! good luck lizy
As long as you dont have any x-rays done then you will be fine. I just asked my doctor and thats what he said because I have a tooth ache also. Just make sure you tell the dentist your pregnant also so he can take the right precautions with medications. Keri S
I had a wisdom tooth pulled at 6 weeks, and fillings done all through my pregnancy. No damage, in fact my obgyn said it is better to keep good oral health and just let your dentist know you are preggo so they don’t do x rays. sandrarosette
I’d say go to the dentist. Make sure you tell your dentist that you’re pregnant. They shouldn’t do x-rays, but they’ll most likely know that. If they try to do x-rays, be sure to adamantly tell them you CANNOT have x-rays done. Also, if they have to do dental work (fillings, caps, etc) They may have to do it novacaine free. I know that’s not something that sounds comfortable or fun, but if it has to be done, at least you’ll feel better in a couple days. But whatever you do, DON’T let your toothache go untreated. Teeth are VERY dangerous, and a serious infection can actually travel to your brain and be potentially very dangerous. Be careful, but call your dentist. Get that tooth taken care of. I know how horrible teeth can be! Good luck! God bless with your new little blessing! CMU
